SHUTTER 2011 dates announced.

  • December 13, 2010 5:52 pm

Inverness based instrumental act Shutter recently saw their debut album “Pillars” selected by Radio 1 in Scotland DJ Vic Galloway as one of his Top 75 Albums of 2010.

The album was selected alongside releases by the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Frightened Rabbit, MGMT, Belle and Sebastian and is one of a very limited number of self released albums to make the final list.

“We are delighted and honoured to be chosen by Vic as one of his top albums of the year”, said Shutter guitarist Matt Campbell. “He’s been a huge supporter of the band, and doing a live session for him on Radio 1 back in August was one of our highlights of the year”.

Following on from this news, the four-piece have also announced their first live dates of 2011, which will take in a tour of the Western Isles.

Saturday Jan. 29th Ceol Mor, Inverness

Thursday Feb. 3rd The Jager Room, Stornoway (Isle of Lewis)
Friday Feb. 4th Macleod Motel, Tarbert (Isle of Harris)
Saturday Feb. 5th Balivanich Hall (Isle of Benbecula)

“We are heavily influenced by the Highland scenery and the theme of communication so we decided to kick off 2011 by taking our music to the Islands where English is not the only language largely spoken and to engross ourselves in the scenery of the Islands” explained Matt. “We look forward to playing to both Gaelic and English audiences and will be filming the experience and releasing the footage later in 2011”.

Review of Shutter Album Launch – Highland News 08/07/10

City band make impact at album launch
By Margaret Chrystall

Published: 08 July, 2010

IT’S not every local band that get the chance to make an impact with an album launch the way SHUTTER did on Saturday with Pillars.

But with a special raised stage in the centre of the venue complete with dramatic lighting, glitter-chains reflecting adding sparkle and a changing skyscape projection up above their heads, the band finally had the grand setting their music has always deserved.

With each changing track from the album, the lights shifted through the spectrum.

And reflecting the changing moods, guitarists Pete Macdonald, Matt Campbell and bassist James Roberts either turned to face a different section of the audience ranged on three of the four sides of the stage. Or they turned in to each other.

It had all the drama the music demands.

And though the album tracks worked as a suite of music, some stood out – such as The Others with its earthquake of rumbling bassline.

You couldn’t help wondering whether they’ve even invented a creature up to the powerful theme of Superhero Movie Music.

While the best-that quote the guys now use on their promotion – “Wagner with a touch of feedback” is good.

When it comes to describing the sound now coming from a band that has always had a clear idea of how it’s temple to post-rock should look, you probably can’t beat the verdict of one almost over-enthusiastic bouncing punter on Saturday night.

“Melt the walls!”
